This is a duplicate of an affidavit that was made by Lieutenant Penrod Dean during the Australian War Crimes Trials. The war crimes trials were part of a wider international effort to account for crimes committed during the Second World War.Dean had been captured during the fall of Singapore as part of the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion of the 2nd Australian Imperial Force, and was interned in both Changi and Outram prisons, the latter due to an escape attempt made in 1942.
