Duplicate of War Crime Trial affidavit made by Penrod Dean, dated 29 April 1946

This is a duplicate of an affidavit that was made by Lieutenant Penrod Dean during the Australian War Crimes Trials. The war crimes trials were part of a wider international effort to account for crimes committed during the Second World War.Dean had been captured during the fall of Singapore as part of the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion of the 2nd Australian Imperial Force, and was interned in both Changi and Outram prisons, the latter due to an escape attempt made in 1942. In this affidavit, Dean recounts the deaths of fellow POWs Privates Ross and Allen and Corporal Fairey, as well as identifies several Japanese guards and staff of Outram prison from photographs.
