This sturdy cloth was rarely worn. The pattern was only allowed to be put on by men of high status. Made by the Kodi people in West Sumba, their textile patterns followed fixed formulas. Therefore, motifs seen on this cloth such as the python skin patterning on the top and bottom and the mamuli (representing female sexuality) in the central panel, would often be repeated on similar textiles.
