The widest band in this wrap (beti) is decorated with a variation of the lozenge shaped motif called kaif, which is used in Timorese textiles to denote connections with the ancestors. Smaller bands have twisting snake motifs, and triangular chains in yellow, brown, red and black. Such cloths are usually worn by men, wrapped around the waist, during rites of passage ceremonies and other rituals.
