The main band of this wrap is decorated with the kaif motif, which is regularly used in Timorese textiles to demonstrate a connection with ancestors. Other motifs such as the snake, and a humanoid figure with upright arms, are accompanied with smaller geometric shapes, along with the ubiquitous stripes seen on Timor textiles. Such cloths are usually worn by men, wrapped around the waist, during rites of passage ceremonies and other rituals.
