The Yale-NUS College academic dress includes elements of National University of Singapore (NUS) and Yale University, in its hood and sash colours respectively.It consists of a black base gown, hood with blue and white trims, orange sash and mortarboard. The sash, designed by Natalie Tan from the inaugural Class of 2017, has a batik-inspired print of the college’s mascot, Halcyon (a blue-eared kingfisher).Yale-NUS College was the first liberal arts college in Singapore and one of the only few in Asia. The college was set up at a time when schools in Asia were looking to move away from exam-dominated curricula.
