This is a will written in Jawi of a lady residing in Singapore, Kampong Rochor, Jalan (?) Street, House No. 150. Her name was Enchi’ Maimunah binte Haji Muhammad Kasim. She bequeathed to her son, Haji Abdullah bin Haji Abdul Rauf, a plot of burial ground at Sultan Lane (?), lot number 20 of 30 feet wide and 100 feet long, and a plot of land facing Jalan Bengkulu (?) towards the west side of the Indian cemetery – the latter holding a 99-year lease starting from 28 November 1873. She also categorically stated that no one apart from her son was entitled to lay claim to her property; this included his wives and his siblings.This document is part of the John Koh collection which comprises of various legal documents in Arabic, Jawi, and English, and serves as a record of the 19th and early 20th century colonial legal systems in Singapore and the interactions of various ordinary individuals with the law.
