Statement of food allowance from Enchi’ Saemah

This is a statement of acknowledgement from Enchi’ Saemah, the widow of Tambi Yusuf(?) of Kampong Kalam, that she had put in writing an agreement with Zainul Abidin Khosan(?) Tambi Yusuf(?) to receive $34 per mensem in cash as food allowance, starting from the year 1261H to the present time (1262H). It was written on her behalf by Abdul Kadir of Melaka and dated 7 Muharram 1262H (corresponding to 4 January 1846).This document is part of the John Koh collection which comprises of various legal documents in Arabic, Jawi, and English, and serves as a record of the 19th and early 20th century colonial legal systems in Singapore and the interactions of various ordinary individuals with the law.
