A Set of Documents related to the Power of Attorney issued by Syed Abdullah bin Abibakar Alkoff

This is a set of documents related to the power of attorney granted by Syed Abdullah bin Abibakar Alkoff to Syed Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Alkoff on 4 October 1901. This set comprises of a copy of the original document written in Arabic, as well as two translations in Jawi and English. Also included is the statutory declaration of Abubakar bin Mohamed bin Oman Bil Fakiah of No. 276 North Bridge Road Singapore, who verified that he was present at the creation of the power of attorney. The appointee Syed Abdulrahman was authorized to sell the house belonging to Syed Abdullah located at Tanah Miskin in Singapore, numbered 113 Queen Street. He could sell it at any price that he deemed to be appropriate. He was also to pay for government and broker’s fees using the funds derived from the sale. The power of attorney was certified according to Mohamedan Law by the Kadi of Tarim, Abdulrahman bin Ahmad Fadul Abdulgauin Bil Haj Bafadul, and was sealed with his stamp. This document is part of the John Koh collection which comprises of various legal documents in Arabic, Jawi, and English, and serves as a record of the 19th and early 20th century colonial legal systems in Singapore and the interactions of various ordinary individuals with the law.
