This is an administrative account of the estate of Nyna Mohamed, made by his wife, Hajeemah, and dated 14 May 1856. A variety of debts were owed by the deceased to Mr Marsh, Kader Sah (debts of the deceased as well as amounts which Kader Sah loaned to Hajeemah for the “subsistence of [herself] and children”), Meera Lebby, Kadir Baura, and the Registrar of the Court. A sum of 32.75 Spanish dollars was also due as part of the five percent “administratorship’s commission”. As various items in the household as well as a landed property belonging to the deceased were previously sold at a public auction for 655.50 Spanish dollars, the final balance in favour of the estate was 214.25 Spanish dollars. This document is part of the John Koh collection which comprises of various legal documents in Arabic, Jawi, and English, and serves as a record of the 19th and early 20th century colonial legal systems in Singapore and the interactions of various ordinary individuals with the law.
