Hollow Vessel

Born in 1966 in Singapore, Jason Lim holds a Bachelor of Art (Hons) from Central St Martins College of Art and Design, U.K. (1992) and a Master of Fine Art from Royal Melbourne Institute Technology University, Australia (2003). Lim is a trained ceramicist and interdisciplinary artist. This is one of nine works in the ‘Are you afraid of ceramics and stuff like that’ series. The emphasis is not on the functionality of a vessel, yet Lim retains the vessel form for his objects in this series, and they are intentionally small and manipulated so as to encourage the viewer to go up-close, while serving as reminders of everyday items encountered during mundane circumstances. Formed from a single clay slab, the two ends curve to meet in the centre. The exterior surface is embedded with circular marks made by the artist but in some places partially obscured by the applied slip.
