This is a customised porcelain bowl used at the Tai Tong Restaurant (大东酒楼). The restaurant opened in 1928 and was a reputed dining place among the Chinese community in Singapore. Above the restaurant name on the bowl, are the characters for “New World” (Xin Shi Jie 新世界), which refers to the amusement park at Jalan Besar where the restaurant was located at.
