This photograph shows Quah Chin Siong, Danny, and Soh Beow Seng, Nancy, at the latter's family home in Jalan Sentosa, in the early 1970s. The couple dated in the early 1970s and got married in 1975. Quah Chin Siong (1946-2023) is the grandson of Quah Chin Lai (1892-1990), a metal and machinery hardware tycoon and philanthropist in early to mid-20th century Singapore. This portrait is part of a set of documents, including postcards and photographs, recording memories of the couple during their courtship, leading up to their wedding ceremony. Collectively, the items chronicle events in the relationship trajectory of a middle class couple in the 1970s, at the same time shining light into the family lives of one of Singapore’s early Chinese business trailblazers, Quah Chin Lai, and his descendant.
