This photograph shows Quah Chin Siong, Danny, in front of the house of his to-be wife Soh Beow Seng, Nancy, in Jalan Sentosa, in the 1970s. The couple met at a party in the early 1970s, got married in 1975 and had a son and daughter. Quah Chin Siong is the grandson of Quah Chin Lai, a metal and machinery hardware tycoon and philanthropist in early to mid-20th century Singapore. This card is part of a set of documents, including postcards and photographs, recording exchanges between the couple during their courtship, leading up to their wedding ceremony. Collectively, the items chronicle events in the relationship trajectory of a middle class couple in the 1970s, at the same time shining light into the family lives of one of Singapore’s early Chinese business trailblazers and his descendant.
