This pair of tomb pillars carved with a pyramidal structure at the top, were originally placed at two intersections of the angular tomb arms that extended from each side of an exhumed tomb (LTA peg no. 1473E/1473-1) in Bukit Brown Cemetery. This grave is one of over 3,700 graves that were affected by the construction of a new road cutting through Bukit Brown Cemetery. Located in the central part of Singapore, the cemetery was officially opened on 1 January 1922 by the British colonial government as a public cemetery for non-Christian Chinese. It came to house an estimated 100,000 graves before it was officially closed to burials in 1973.
