This is a directory of Chinese schools and community organisations in Singapore, published in 1947, titled Directory of Chinese Schools and Associations in Singapore (Xinjiapo hua qiao she tuan xue xiao tong xun lu 《新加坡华侨社团学校通讯录》). The directory compiled the names and addresses of various Chinese schools and Chinese community organisations that existed in Singapore at the time, including clan associations and trade unions. The directory’s introductory pages also provide information aimed at helping newly arrived Chinese migrants navigate the rules and customs of Singapore, such as providing guidelines on how to join Chinese community organisations, as well as other key information considered useful, such as explaining local laws and the rights of new migrants. The book was published by Nantao Publishing House, which mostly published Singapore travel guides in Chinese during the 1950s and 1960s, including the guidebook titled ‘Guide to Singapore’ (Xinjiapo zhi nan 《新加坡指南》).
