Donated by the family of the late Robert Choong Kim Siew
This letter was issued to Choong Kim Siew, a Leading Seaman with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), by his former superior to be forwarded to the Registrar of Citizens in Singapore. The letter certifies the various addresses that Choong had resided in throughout his entire service with the RMN. In the immediate period after separation between Singapore and Malaysia in 1965, discharged officers such as Choong were allowed to request for civilian identity cards and citizenship in Singapore or Malaysia. This letter provided his proof of residence in Singapore, and was required to be submitted as part of the application process.
