Mi Nan Gong (米南宫) (1051-1107) is a prominentNorthern Song calligrapher and painter. This book features Min Nan Gong imitating the calligraphy of Song Mi Fu (宋米芾), who in turn had copied the calligraphy of Wang Xi Zhi (王羲之). Wang is regarded as the greatest Chinese calligrapher in history. It was a common practice to copy calligraphic works of great masters to hone one’s skills.Printed by the Shanghai Fu Lu Shou Zi Tie Zhi Ping She (上海福禄寿字帖纸品社) in China, this copy book was likely used in Chinese schools during the early- mid 20th century. Chinese schools would have their students practise calligraphy from such books to hone the students’ skills and expose them to Chinese culture and traditional values.
