Huang Zi Yuan (黄自元) was a famous calligrapher from the late Qing dynasty, who was adept at all calligraphic styles. This copybook focuses on his style of kai shu (楷书) or regular script.Printed by Xing Zhou Zhi Cheng Shu Ju (星洲志成书局) in Singapore, this copy book was likely used in Chinese schools during the early- mid 20th century. Chinese schools would have their students practise calligraphy from such books to hone the students’ skills and expose them to Chinese culture and traditional values.
