Block 9 Selegie Road, built 1963

Block 9 Selegie Road is part of Selegie House, one of HDB’s first high-rise projects built in central Singapore in 1963. Selegie House is the first pilot project carried out by the HDB’s urban renewal scheme, where obsolete properties were taken down and replaced with a multi-storey mixed residential and commercial precinct. It was declared open by founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on 31st May 1963. Selegie House has its place firmly cemented in public housing history because it was the tallest ever public housing block ever built when it was completed.
