Block 45 Stirling Road, built 1961

Blocks 45, 48 and 49 are Singapore’s oldest high-rise public housing blocks built by the HDB. Construction work on these blocks first began in under the watch of the Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT). Following the dissolution of the SIT in 1959, the HDB took over and completed the building works in 1960. Historically, the blocks served as low cost government rental flats, which meant that their tenants would not be concerned over its 99-year lease.
