Jawi receipt for rent during Japanese Occupation

The document is a receipt that serves as proof of payment of rent for a property on Pulau Tekong. Dated to 25 December 2604 (in Japanese calendar, 1944 in Gregorian calendar), illustrates a transaction for payment of rent for property at 'Kampong Selabin', located in present-day Pulau Tekong. Written in Jawi, the document was commissioned for the landlord of said property, identified only as 'Tunku Petri Badariah, Tekong Besar' (the latter being the name of one of two islands that now make up Pulau Tekong) by 'Al-Ahmadiah Press', a printing house located in Kampong Gelam that was responsible for various seminal Malay-language publications in the early- to mid-20th century.
