Address of the Merchants of Singapore, on the occasion of the departure of the Honorable Sir T. S. Raffles in 1823

Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. This address, dated 5 June 1823, was delivered by the European and local merchants of Singapore upon Raffles’ final departure from the island, and was met with Raffles’ reply, through the Resident of Singapore John Crawfurd, dated 9 June 1823. These addresses were printed by Raffles at the Sumatran Mission Press, which was run by Baptist missionaries, on his return to Bencoolen.
