Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. This soft-ground etching was produced based on a marble bust of Raffles by Sir Francis Chantrey. The print identifies Raffles as President of the Zoological Society of London, which he was involved in founding.
