This is a proof print of the marble bust of Sir Stamford Raffles sculpted by Sir Francis Chantrey in 1817. On his return to London from Java, Raffles commissioned Chantrey, a well known sculptor, to produce a bust of his likeness. This original bust was most likely lost with the sinking of the Fame off Sumatra in 1824. This print depicting the bust was produced by Samuel Cousins, an English mezzotint engraver.
