Portrait of Sir Thomas Stamford RafflesArtist: Engraved by Thompson, after A. E. Chalon

Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. This mezzotint print was produced based on a miniature portrait of Raffles by A. E. Chalon. It was published by Henry Fisher in January 1824, when Raffles was Lieutenant-Governor of Bencoolen in Sumatra. He would leave for England the following month.
