Lady Sophia Raffles was the wife of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, having married him in 1817. This letter is part of a collection of letters written by her to the Revd Thomas Raffles, who was her husband’s cousin. In it, Lady Raffles updates on her progress correcting proofs for her Memoir of the Life and Public Services of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles as well as for the second edition of Raffles’ The History of Java.
