Lady Sophia Raffles was the wife of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, having married him in 1817. This letter is part of a collection of letters written by her to the Revd Thomas Raffles, who was her husband’s cousin. In it, Lady Raffles mentions the death of Captain William Lawrence Flint, Raffles’ brother in law, and the plans for his wife and Raffles’ sister Mary Anne and their daughter to return to England. Flint was Singapore’s first official Master Attendant.
