This photograph shows a group of Anglo-Chinese School students posing before a bamboo grove.The Anglo-Chinese School was a Methodist school founded in 1886 by Bishop William Fitzjames Oldham.With continuous improvement of camera technology, it became possible to take photographs outside a studio in the first decades of the 20th century. Many middle-class families collected photographs in albums as a way of documenting family life, or documentasi keluarga.
