This East India Company officer’s sword was made by John Prosser, one of London’s pre-eminent sword cutlers of the late 18th century. The locket on the scabbard is engraved with the figure of a lion rampant gardant supporting an imperial crown, which is the mark of the East India Company also found in its heraldic arms.
