East India Company Chart Case

This black leather case was used for storing sea charts. It belonged to F. H. Halpin (or Halpen), whose name is inscribed on a brass plaque on the case, along with the initials HEICS, indicating his employment for the Honorable East India Company Service. Halpin was a purser aboard the Farquharson, one of the largest and heavily armed East Indiamen between 1828 and 1833, during which the vessel made three voyages between India and China.
