Untitled (station interior)

This image shows the interior of the Tanjong Pagar railway station. The station was known for its Art Deco and neo-classical architectural styles. Designed by Swan and Maclaren, the main hall in the station has a high ceiling that helps with ventilation, while its windows allow for daylight to fliter in. The framed initials of the FMSR (Federated Malay States Railways) can also be seen, together with the coats-of-arms of the Federated Malay States and the Straits Settlements. This image is part of the "Tracking Memories" collection by the late Mr Kwek Leng Joo. The collection captures different aspects of the Malayan Railway story in Singapore, documenting an important chapter in the history of Singapore. Some of the works were exhibited at the National Museum of Singapore in 2011, together with the watercolour paintings of Mr Ong Kim Seng.
