Community centre course certificate

This is a certificate of attendance from a dim sum making course (advanced stage) that was conducted at the Khe Bong Community Centre in Singapore. The course was conducted between October 1985 and January 1986 over 36 hours. The attendee was Madam Kong Lim Mei, an avid baker and cook who enjoyed participating in cooking classes at community centres. Community centres conducted various types of classes in the 1970s and 1980s and they were highly popular with Singaporeans. The Khe Bong Community Centre, for example, conducted water colour painting, cake making and children's art classes. These classes at community centres offered residents opportunities to pick up new skills and also served as a platform for residents to interact with each other. Community centres play a key role in providing affordable leisure programmes for residents and fostering relations in the community.
