Of great historical significance as this was the Union Jack raised by Force 136 at Bahau in Negri Sembilan when they landed at the settlement after the Japanese surrender in September 1945. It was then given to Mickey Alves who was a child living with his adopted Eurasian family at the colony. Mickey kept it all these years before handing it over to Fiona Hodgkins, who is the author of "From Syonan to Fuji-Go", a detailed account of the background of the Bahau settlement and its inhabitants. This artefact is an important part of Singapore's history, particularly related to the Eurasian experience during the Japanese Occupation.
