This edition of the New Testament in Baba Malay was printed in London in 1950 by the British and Foreign Bible Society, which produced Bible translations in many of the world’s languages. The translation was first published in 1913 by the Methodist Mission Press of Singapore. It was prepared by the missionary and printer Reverend William Shellabear, with the help of local advisors. Peranakans began converting to Christianity in the 19th century, and the first Peranakan church (today Kampong Kapor Methodist Church) was founded in 1894.
