Born in 1936, Thomas Yeo graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. Similar to paintings like Autumn Warmth and Foggy Autumn, Yeo has adopted a semi-abstract and representational style in this work, revealing his enduring fascination with nature and preoccupation with abstraction. Morning Light depicts what Constance Sheares refers to as a ‘dreamlike composition’ – a piece that is evocative of its subject matter, with selective and lyrical renderings of elements from nature, such as the trees and misty landscape.
