Lui Hock Seng (b. 1937) is a self-taught photographer who was active on the scene during the 1960s and 1970s. His works belong to the pictorial photography movement and his pictures largely depict the landscapes of trades of a rapidly-changing Singapore during the 1960s and 1970s. This image was taken just after the break of dawn, as Mr Lui captured the first morning light at Ellenborough Market which was located by the Singapore River.
