Xu Beihong had a great influence on early 20th century Chinese painting. As one of the first Chinese painters to study in the West, he became a master of both traditional ink painting and western oil painting. Xu Beihong's sojourn in Nanyang was made possible by the foresight and generosity of Chinese community leaders.
