This is a statement by the wife of Pak Ali who went to demand for her husband’s pay of 2 ringgit from Tambi Zain, dated 25 Safar 1261H (corresponding to 4 March 1845). She produced an official letter (surat rasmi) and managed to get him to hand the money over in cash.This document is part of the John Koh collection which comprises of various legal documents in Arabic, Jawi, and English, and serves as a record of the 19th and early 20th century colonial legal systems in Singapore and the interactions of various ordinary individuals with the law.
