With its construction beginning in 1849, St. Francis Xavier’s Church was completed in 1856 on the site of an old Portuguese church by a French priest, Father Farvé. This twin-spire Gothic church was named after the famous Catholic missionary who had visited Malacca on several occasions from 1545-1553 while on his way to the Far East.
