Francis Xavier (1506-1552) was a missionary from Spain. In this wooden figure, he is represented as a young bearded priest. His hands usually depicted him carrying a crucifix, a globe, a lily or a touch. Representations of St. Francis Xavier are very popluar in Goa. He is particularly venerated in this region because Goa was his base and where he was buried.
