These are documents concerning the estate of Chew Yee. The first issued on 3 June 1856 states that no action was to be taken with regards to the deceased's estate without the knowledge of the deceased's brother Chew Yoah. The second is the petition of Chew Yoah and Chew Meah for the letters of administration for the deceased's estate. They are part of a collection of legal documents from the 19th and early 20th centuries which provides a glimpse into the work of the notable personalities who left their mark on Singapore’s legal history, and the economic and other transactions undertaken by ordinary immigrants in 19th century Singapore that tell stories of misfortune and indebtedness which would otherwise have disappeared from history.
