The Nanyang style is a blending of multiple stylistic elements from Chinese pictorial traditions and the School of Paris, practised by a group of artists active in the local art scene after the end of World War II. The vibrant colours chosen by Chen are characteristic of the art as well as the light conditions of a tropical climate.
