This large format book cover has a large central arch with the seated figure of Vairochana and two Dhyani Buddha on either side seated on elaborate thrones. They are also depicted with their animal attributes under their seats. In the centre is Vairochana in dharmachakra mudra (turning the wheel of law) with a dragon mount, to his right are Akshobhya in bhumisparasha mudra (touching the earth) on an elephant mount, and Ratnasambhava in varada mudra (bestowing or giving gesture) on a horse or lion mount. To Vairochana’s left is Amitabha in the gesture of dhyana (meditation) sits on a peacock mount, and Amoghasiddhi in the gesture of abhaya (fearlessness) with Garuda mount. The five Dhyani Buddhas are central to Vajrayana Buddhism.
