On this repoussé plaque is Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, who is seated on a lotus throne with his right hand in 'varada mudra' (boon-bestowing gesture). The body type of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara is slender with gentle curves. The sinuous flow of the lotus stalks are echoed in the body and posture.Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara embodies the compassion of all the Buddhas. This seated image of one of the most important Mahayana and Vajrayana deity in Buddhism, is represented in the 'vajraparyankasana', or 'lalitasana' (relaxed posture).
