Born in 1936, Thomas Yeo graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. Landscape and nature are predominant themes in Yeo’s oeuvre. In Dawn, Yeo brings us a view from the top of a hill. Roofs of houses can be seen just behind the trees depicted in the foreground. Yeo demarcates the background by creating a mist-like space in the middle-ground. The use of warm colours in the artwork presents an atmosphere of hope and freshness, like the start of a day.
