Born in 1936, Thomas Yeo graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. Landscape and nature are predominant themes in Yeo’s oeuvre. In 'Trees in the Midst', two trees frame the composition and direct the viewer to focus on the work’s background, where two boats lie off-centre. Yeo skillfully achieves a sense of depth in the atmospheric work by using dark intense colours in the foreground, against a contrast of the lighter colours in the lake and sky.
