City Vista

Born in 1936, Thomas Yeo graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. In City Vista, a work of the 1980s, there appears a mellowing in Thomas Yeo’s style as compared to the early brash and boldly coloured compositions of the 1960s. Here, the collage is of an ambiguous cityscape, suggestive of earth, sky and buildings. Warm, golden earth tones are used throughout and a sense of timelessness and tranquility prevails, an effect achieved through the use of complex interlayering and play of surface and depth of the collage medium.
