Power Structure Series 1/1

Born in 1962 in Singapore, multi-disciplinary artist Goh Ee Choo is a graduate of Singapore’s Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and London’s Slade School of Fine Arts. Goh won First Prize (Representational Painting category) in the 1985 UOB Painting of the Year Competition, and came to prominence in 1988 with the seminal collaborative exhibition ‘Trimurti’.‘Power Structure’, ‘Power Structure Series 1/1’, ‘The Theatres of Power II’ and ‘The Word’ are part of a group of drawings that completed the installation in the 1991 ‘Power Structure’ exhibition. It represents the artist's interpretation of the complex interaction of people and society - the composition of a hierarchical society and the power play within it. A vast departure from Goh’s earlier style which was very much influenced by Eastern philosophies. Here the works are more rigid and structured though they display the some subtle, restraint as his earlier paintings.
