Description

The story of a neighbourhood is not only found in historical records or landmarks. It also lives in the memories of the people who have lived, worked, played and spent time there - in familiar places, everyday routines, changing landscapes and stories passed from one generation to another.

As part of HAN@Mountbatten, we are collecting personal stories, memories and lived experiences connected to Mountbatten. We invite current and former residents, business owners, workers and anyone with a connection to the neighbourhood to contribute to this growing collection of community stories.

This programme is part of HAN@Mountbatten, presented by Arts House Group and supported by the National Heritage Board, as part of Heritage Activation Nodes.

We are currently looking for stories centred on these topics:

Shipyard & Maritime Heritage
What do you remember about Mountbatten’s shipyards, boat-building activities and maritime trades? Do you have memories of the people who worked in these places or trades, or stories connected to the area’s maritime past?

Changing Flora & Landscape
What did the neighbourhood use to look like? Tell us about the trees, plants, waterways, green spaces and landscapes you remember, including those that have changed or disappeared over time.

Long-standing Businesses, Trades & People
Which shops, businesses and trades have been part of Mountbatten over the years? Who are the owners and people behind them? Share your memories and stories of long-standing businesses, familiar establishments and the people who have shaped them, whether they are still here today or have since moved on or disappeared.

Places of Mountbatten & Neighbourhood Change
How have Mountbatten’s streets, homes, buildings and community spaces changed? Tell us about the places you remember, how they were used and what they meant to the people around them.

Share your Mountbatten story with us

Your contribution can be a paragraph describing an experience or memory, accompanied, where available, by old photographs, documents, audio recordings, videos or other materials that help tell the story.

Whether a major historical event or an everyday, personal and lesser-known story, all these contribute to revealing what it was (and is) like to live, work and spend time in Mountbatten.

After your contribution is received, we may contact you if we require further clarifications.

Help us uncover and preserve these stories. Share your Mountbatten story with us.
